Thursday night your Highlanders traveled to Georgetown to play McKinney Boyd in the Regional Semi-Final round of the State playoffs.
Game 1 – lost 4-6
Tough pitching from Boyd kept our girls down to 5 hits and 4 runs. A 6th inning rally to bring us within 2 wouldn’t be enough. Our hits came from Aubrey, Alyssa, Vick and Flick (2). Abby and Caitlin both pitched and allowed only 2 earned runs.
Game 2 – won 2-0
A much stronger outing as Caitlin went all 7 innings allowing only 4 hits and striking out 3. The hits for our team came from Vick (2B), Abby, and Autumn.
Game 3 – won 3-2 (8 innings)
The bats came alive in game 3 as the girls put 13 hits on the board and our pitchers combined to allow only 5 hits from Boyd. Together they struck out 6. There were several great defensive plays including a double play at the plate from Sidney in Centerfield and another play at the plate on a fielders’ choice from Autumn. Even with so many hits, the score was tied 2-2 after 7 innings. We were able to hold Boyd off in the 8th. The bottom of the 8th got started with a ground out followed by a one out single from Aubrey. A bunt single from Alyssa put runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Sidney grounded out to 3rd, but moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd. With 2 outs, Taylor Vick came through with a single to Rightfield to score Aubrey and secure the win 3-2.
Congratulations! Next up: Kingwood

The series began with a Friday afternoon game in Bryan. While a tough game, we lost 1-0. Abby pitched a solid game giving up only 5 hits and no earned runs. Our girsl produced 4 hits, one each for Aubrey, Alyssa, Sidney and Brittany Kellett. The girls kept their spirits up and were ready on Saturday to win!
Saturday began with a 6-5 win that had 7 lead changes throughout the game. Caitlin got the start and went 4 1/3 innings before Abby came in to close. Hits came from Aubrey, Alyssa, and BK. Big hitters were Vick who drove in 2 and Abby and Flick who both had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s each.
Saturday ended with a nail biting 8 inning 2 out hit from Stefani that scored Taylor from 2nd for the win. That was Stef’s 2nd hit for the night. Adding to the hits were Sidney, Brittany Kellett and Flick. Vick had a big night not only scoring the winning run but also having 3 hits of her own. RBI’s came from Vick, Stef, BK and Flick. On the mound we had another team effort with Caitlin and Abby each striking out 2.
