Come out, Get Loud and watch your Highlanders take the next step towards STATE!!

From the first inning our girls showed that they came to play. We controlled the whole game with Abby pitching a no hitter until the 5th inning when we were up 10-0. Typical of Tomball, they made a late inning push and were able to prevent the run rule, but fell short to a 12-5 Woodlands victory.

Our pitching was stellar with Abby going 4 full innings without a hit followed by 3 great innings from Caitlin in complete control. Offensively, the Cougars didn’t have an answer for our bats. The team hit almost .500 with 14 hits including a Home Run by Taylor Odell, a Triple from Aubrey and a Double from Paige.

Whatever advantage Stony Point thought they had coming into Saturday’s game was quickly squashed as the team came out on fire to win the final game 6-0. The energy level from both the team and the fans was unmatched by Stony Point and it translated into too much for them to handle on the field. Abby pitched the complete game shut out and was backed by great defense and strong bats, including a triple from Taylor Odell.

Round 2 – (Area) will be played next week, more details to follow. 128 teams start in the playoffs – after round one we are down to 64.

Following the game, the six seniors were honored for their time and committment to Highlander softball with the traditional reading of the senior letters.

*Note: Although the JV game was cancelled, the JV team had the best record in district play and are officially District Champs as well.

The JV got off to a good start posting 2 runs in the 1st which included a home run by Holly Gillmor. Unfortunately this was followed by several mental errors that cost us the lead. The team rallied back to win 15-6. A win on Friday will clinch the district title.

The Varsity had no such struggles, winning 12-1. The Highlander pitching staff gave up only one extra base hit and 5 hits total. Our offense for the night included a Kaitlyn Stavinoha triple and doubles by Kayla, Faith and Paige. The Varsity is now 24-3 and looking good heading into playoffs next week.

The JV came out swinging with an 11-0 victory. While we will not officially clinch the title until we win our last two games, it is certainly looking like a continutation of the now 8 year streak.

The Varsity also got started with a close game with a score of 3-3 in the 4th inning. Starting in the 5th, the Highlanders took control of the game posting another 13 runs in the next 3 innings. Abby Langkamp got the start and did a great job with 5 strike outs followed by Caitlin Bartsch with the save. Offensively we were led by Jessica who had a Home Run and a Double, Sidney had a Triple, Faith and Paige both added Doubles to the team total of 12 hits.

The Varsity got things started early putting 7 runs on the board in the first inning. The no hit shut out continued until the 5th inning when Lufkin got their first and only 2 hits. The final score was an overwhelming 21-0 win that was a total team effort as every team member played. Defensive was led by solid pitching from both Abby and Caitlin. Offensively, the Highlanders had Home Runs by Abby and Jessica, a Triple by Sidney and Doubles by Faith (2), Abby, Sidney and Autumn.

The Varsity is now 8-0 in District play.
